This won a national gold key in scholastics in 2017. I did it when I was 14, and I accidentally missed an English class cause I was painting the eyeball. It’s of my friend Joe.“Bath House”. Oil on Canvas. 30″ x 36″. 2017. This was my 3rd painting, and it was a transition between the photo-realism I was used to and something more painterly. It’s based off of Martin Parr’s “Hungarian Baths” and the idea was that in order to avoid copying it exactly I had to paint with expression (!). The figure looking directly at the viewer is a fusion of my brother and Max Beckmann’s “Self Portrait in Tuxedo” aka the iciest self portrait of all time. I learned a lot from this one.“Knit”. Oil on Canvas. 30″ x 36″. Coming off of “Bath House”, I felt the brushstrokes flowin through me. I ended up completing it in 4 days in 2017 (I was 15).
